Who is Mike Liechty?

Mike Liechty is the owner and primary editor of To all a good write. He has spent his entire professional life as a writer and editor. He began at age 16 as a part-time sports writer at his hometown newspaper in Burlington, Iowa. After graduating from the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri - Columbia, Mike held writing/editing positions at newspapers in Warrensburg, Mo., and Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

In 1989, he became a copy editor for the Times Leader newspaper in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Mike was named news editor (head of the copy desk) in 1994 and held that position through September 2006. Having achieved all of his goals at the Times Leader, Mike resigned to seek other challenges.

With To all a good write, Mike seeks to help all people improve their writing skills. Through his 25 years in journalism Mike has developed into an editor who specializes in keeping writing basic and clean. Mike's editing style promotes short, simple wording and concise sentences. His philosophy is: The fewer the words the better.

Tom Mooney - Tom worked for the Times Leader newspaper in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., from 1981-2006 as a reporter and copy editor. Although retired, Tom works part-time for the paper, writing columns and the occasional story. Tom is an expert in English and grammar, and teaches composition classes at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke, Pa.; College Misericordia in Dallas Township, Pa.; Penn State Wilkes-Barre in Lehman Township, Pa; and King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He also is one of the leading historians of Northeastern Pennsylvania and is an avid genealogist.

Ray Blockus - Ray worked for the Times Leader newspaper in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., for more than 30 years as a reporter, editorial writer and copy editor. Ray, a stickler for proper English, made sure stories were clear and simple. He also taught journalism and feature writing at Wilkes University, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., after retiring from the Times Leader.

Joe Student - Joe worked as a page designer for the Times Leader newspaper from 2001-2002, and as the editor of the Weekender, an entertainment-news magazine, from 2003-2005.
